DIY Perfect Summer Frock

IMG_3737-1
I love maxi dresses like no other so with summer looming, a closet of light weight maxi’s will never get old so prepare to see quite a few in the coming weeks.  Using Butterick pattern B5454 and this light weight jersey from Mood I made the following pattern alterations:

Added 23″ to the skirt
Added 7″ to the sleeve and added elastic
Wanted a thinner belt so cut 72″x3″
Instead of the two block pleats in the front and back of the skirt, I used small pleats around the entire skirt.
Instead of the block pleats on the bodice I used three small pleats on each side
To add volume to the shoulders, I added two pleats

Necklaces: DIY
Shades- Prada

FABULOUS! A wrap style or maxi shirt dress is on my list. I'm craving that high-slit style! You look great and that color is amazing on you.

man, this looks fabulous. There was another butterick pattern (5388)that I wanted to try this with. I love this. BTW….I will need the deets on the footwear. I am going to NY next Friday and can't wait to hit up Mood! I am going specifically for fabric!

Thank you 🙂 when I pulled up 5388 it was a top, are you going to convert the pattern to a dress? the sandals are Versace. Be prepared to spend a few hours in Mood preferably with someone that sews if not go solo lol

I completely agree! I keep going back to this post (hence why I'm posting after so many months). I'm making this pattern with Nikki's alterations so that I can have a nice lounging gown, ala 1920s stars. I saw an old Marilyn Monroe movie ages ago that reminds me of this outfit. She wore it as a fancy lounging outfit for home…which I've been coveting for sometime. I've been looking for something that would work better than my sweats and this with its alterations definitely caught my eye. Beautiful gown Nikki.

Love the dress. I'm seriously thinking about doing a few 60's style A-line maxi dresses for the summer.

Gorgeous color, dress, model and styling! I have a similiar dress in blue from DVF. I wasnt sure if it would be too hot to wear now because it is long sleeved. You have convinced me! 🙂

Thank you Tash, It's really light and flowy which is perfect for summer.
