Tools:
Pine Wood (available at a lumber yard or Home Depot)
Jigsaw
Pencil
Ruler/yard stick
Painters tape
Chalkboard paint
Paint Roller (mini)
Mineral Oil
Step 1- (I purchased a 8 ft x10x1.5 inch piece of wood) Cut your board down to a workable size and decide on the design you want the board to be. Draw the design on the board and using a jigsaw, cut out the shape. Tip: select pieces with character and imperfections, makes your board more unique
Step 2- Starting with a 60 grit sand paper, sand the edges and the rough spots of the board. Finish off with a 220 grit sand paper to ensure the entire board is smooth.
Step 3-Using a food grade mineral oil, apply the mineral oil in four coats waiting 10 minutes between each coat.
Step 4- Draw a line to determine how much of the paint board you would like, I used a 18″x3″ space.
Step 5- Apply painters tape to the top of the line
Step 6- Using a mini roller, roll the chalk board paint onto the board. Paint three coats, allow the paint to dry between each coat.
