DIY Midi Dress

Cobalt is the new black, at least that’s the word on my street.  I simply can’t get enough of this amazing color one because I simply love it, but the truth is I purchased three variations of the color in so many yards I have no choice but to go cobalt crazy.

One of the many benefits of being tall is the ability to pull off a dress that hits you at the calf.  There’s something both demure and sexy about a dress this length.  Made with McCall’s M6355 view D with the following alterations:

-Added a 1″ curved neck
-Added 5″ to the length
-Added a 5″ ruffle to the hem
-Added three pleats to the shoulder which created an exaggeration

Clutch-Bottega Veneta
Heels- Jean Michel Cazabat
Shades- Ralph Lauren
Bangle-AV MAX

grading in the waist is my challenge

It's definitely a process. If I had a form exact to my body it would be a cake walk.

Wonderful dress, excellent fit! What kind of fabric did you use?

    • September 24, 2013 / 12:41 pm

Thank you Marianne, I'm not sure of the exact fiber but it feels like a stretch ponte neoprene If that exsisted.

This dress is absolutely everything and I hope that you will sell this in your etsy shop. I was just looking in your shop the other day and was hoping you'd make a version of the ruffle body con dress with sleeves for the fall/winter season.

I love how you've taken that pattern and just created your personal block! That color looks great on you. And did you incorporate the selvage as a design feature on the hem of the flounce? Girl, that's brilliant!

    • September 24, 2013 / 12:49 pm

      Thank you Erica.
The selvage of this fabric was really interesting, it has these little black lines going through it which gives the raw edge a bit more personality.

This dress is beautiful but in addition to the great sewing work, it's your shape that compliments the dress so well. Can we get a post on your workout regimen please?

      Thank you Adara,

Here is my health and fitness posthttp://www.beautejadore.com/2013/06/health-fitness.html

As a silent stalker of this blog, I can answer the workout question: If you go to her "My Beauty" page, she has it all outlined there. I started a variation of Beaute J'Adore's workout this week, and I must say, it is thorough and efficient without being CrossFit-esque crazy. :D! Highly doable at any level fitness. I've already lost 3 lbs!! P.S. I've been inspired to pick up sewing again since I started following this blog. In the last few weeks, my collection of patterns has grown bordering on the edge of excessive. McCall's/Vogue pattern companies keep having these ridiculous sales (although shipping is a beast!!). I've had a sewing machine, stashes of fabric and notions for years now, I just was never satisfied with the results (or the time it took to complete projects). Seeing what you've done here has pushed me to try again. Keep posting!!!

Congrats on your weight loss!!!! don't you just feel better 🙂 thank you for expressing the ease of the workout. Buying patterns and fabric can definitely become an obsession that if not checked will get wayyy out of line. I agree the shipping is a little sick, considering we all know how much it cost to truly ship paper. I would say keep trying and as long as you have a strong desire, you will definitely see progress. FYI my first project years ago was a pair of pajamas with one arm 10 inches longer than the other and one leg I couldn't even get my foot into so trust me it's a work in progress 🙂
