DIY floral ponte dress

DIY floral ponte dress
The description of this fabric on Moodfabrics.com states “this is a fabric you do not want to miss” and I would like to stand up and salute to that description because this fabric is on my top 10 list of all time favorites.  I knew from the moment I opened the package and felt all it’s awesomeness I would fall in love.  It’s beautifully soft with a great drape, sews with perfection and super easy to work with.  Lets not mention this is one of the most comfortable dresses I own.  The look reminds me of a neoprene but feels like  a silk jersey.  The muted floral design is simply icing on the top.The pattern used was the bodice to my beloved McCalls M5927 view E with the following  alterations:
-Added 1 1/2″ to the height of neck
-Using a curved ruler, added a cut out to the front sides.
-Added exaggerated sleeves by removing the bottom half of the sleeve and doubling the width the shoulder portion of the sleeve and pleating.  To add extra height to the shoulder, I added mini shoulder pads to the sleeves and added elastic at the hem.

The skirt of the dress was made using a self drafted pattern found here.  The bodice and skirt was attached with a 22″ invisible zipper down the back.

The coat was previously made here

In the next few weeks, I will be posting a video tutorial on altering the McCalls M5927 pattern so stay tuned…………..

I thought, "nice dress" at the pic with the coat on. Then when you showed those sleeves, I was WOWED! I looooove the sleeves. Textured knits are my fav, as well. I have some pique knits in my stash that I'm going to sew up for the spring. I'm glad to see you smiling more in your pics, too!
