DIY Suited in red

I can recount a time where everything that hung in my closet was black! and from as far back as I can remember, black was always my favorite color…I know, black isn’t a color but you couldn’t tell me that.  Fast forward several years and give me the brightest color on the wheel and I’m in heaven. This color is called poppy which is a mix of red and orange.  It’s bright beautiful and definitely standout.  It’s medium weight with a bit of stretch which makes this the perfect year round trouser fabric.  It’s almost sold out so you better grab some quickly.

The pattern used for these pants was the same pattern used for these, which came from one of my favorite pair of jeans that I damaged with bleach.  I opened the seam which created the perfect fitting pattern.  The changes made were as follows:

-Added a 4.5″ waist band
-Removed the fly zipper and added a side zipper
-Added 3″ to the length

The top was made using Vogue V8815 view A with the following alterations:

-Cut 6″ off the bottom of the top of the pattern
-Faced the top portion of the pattern
-Added a 2″ band separating the top portion and the peplum portion
-Added a 12″ inverted pleated peplum
-Added a 20″ zipper down the back
-Added a 1.5″ double band at the bottom of the peplum
