DIY open back pencil dress

I left the “traditional” workforce a couple of years ago but these dresses, minus the open back bring me back to that time.  Whenever I now have the opportunity to wear one, I couldn’t be happier.  This is my interpretation of modest. 🙂

This dress was made using this Donna Karan double face crepe from moodfabrics.com ,  The navy blue color is perfect and so dark it’s almost black.  It sews and cuts nicely and has a nice amount of stretch which make it super comfy.  It’s lined in this gorgeous silk charmeuse which makes this dress feel luxurious.

The pattern used for this dress was this vintage McCall’s pattern 3673  which I altered with a high waist pencil skirt, 12″ zipper, 1.5″ to the sleeves and a  5″ back slit, instead of the button back midi skirt.  As you can see I absolutely love vintage patterns and feel they represent my style more so than the new patterns so thank god for Etsy.
