DIY dual zipper pencil dress

DIY dual zipper pencil dress

If ever a piece that makes me feel like a real bona fide woman, it has to be a pencil dress.  Not sure if it’s because In my twenties I would have never worn one for the fear of looking too grown aka old, or not being able to find one that fit the way I wanted (that didn’t make me look to grown).  Nonetheless, I love them now!The fabric used for this dress was a tech fabric I picked up at Mood LA over the summer.  It’s a medium weight faille like with a slight sheen that I cut on the bias for a little added stretch.  It’s a bit difficult to iron but very easy to sew.  Here is a great alternative on

The pattern used for this dress was a self drafted skirt and the bodice to this vintage Mcall 3015      pattern with the following alterations:

-Added a 9″ zipper to the front seam
-Added pleats to the front shoulders
-Added a puffy sleeve

The skirt was drafted from this DIY pencil skirt pattern with the following alterations:

-Added 3″ to the length of the skirt
-Removed the waist band option and attached the skirt to the bodice
