DIY Perfect fall dress

When the seasons start to change, selecting fabric can be a bit tricky.  I’m still inclined to purchase lighter fabric but in a darker color.  My solution is to simply line the fabric with my trusty charmeuse which will give the look a bit more weight and a more finished feel.  So if you’re like me and still don’t want to give up on your warm-weather fabric like this blue medium weight linen, Try adding a charmeuse lining.

This dress was made using the bodice of vintage Vogue 9143 with the following alterations:

-Cut the pattern at the point where you would lengthen or shorten

-Add darts in the back and front

-Added a 15″ self-drafted skirt

-Inserted a side zipper

-Added a 7″x43″ gathered ruffle

-Added a pleated oversized sleeve

-Added an elastic band to the sleeve

-Added a 2″ serged band to the bottom of the dress

Chandler’s dress was made using vintage Simplicity 8990 with the following alterations:

-Remove 3″ from the length

-Added a 3″ pleated ruffle

-Added 2″ to the width of the bottom of the sleeve

-Added a 2″ elastic to the wrist

I love wearing linen all year round too and love your idea of warming it up with a nice lining. Both dresses are fabulous, and love what you did with the sleeves!
