DIY Summer Maxi

Nothing reads summertime more than a maxi dress and sandals and I absolutely love them both.  Unfortunately summer hasn’t arrived yet unless you are on vacation, where it’s full steam ahead.

Vacationing for me has taken on a new twist when you have a 7 month old in tow.  A lot of relaxing and lounging where maxi dresses come in right on time.

This dress was made with this matte jersey from moodfabrics.com which is pretty amazing for maxi dresses. It comes in twenty colors, yes you heard me right a full twenty colors of amazement.  This fabric sews beautifully neat, irons perfectly and drapes like no other jersey with it’s medium weight.

The pattern used for this dress was the bodice of Vogue V8896 and a self drafted skirt with the following alterations:

-Added a double seam bell sleeve with elastic
-The skirt was made by cutting 2 pieces of fabric 18×47″ long and 1 29×47″ sew the 18″ pieces to the sides of the 29″ piece leaving room 3.5″ from the top for the pockets.
Connect the skirt to the bodice by pleating the skirt as you go around to fit the bodice.
I finished the inside by serging the seams.
