DIY digitally printed a-line high waisted skirt and cut out shoulder top

The last few months, I’ve been obsessed with jewel tone fabrics.  These rich pigmented fabrics are just amazing and look great on most skin tones.  Moodfabrics.com has the most beautiful summer jewel tones perfect for balmy temps.

This top was made with this silk and cotton woven that’s even more beautiful in person.  It cuts, sews and irons very easily and would make a perfect dress or even jacket, due to it’s structure.

When I look at this skirt, the first thing that comes to mind is Dolce & Gabbana.  This digitally printed fabric is striking.  the print and colors are vibrant, very Dolce reminiscent.  It frays a bit so make sure the edges are treated appropriately and a lining is necessary due to the fabric being pretty structured and a bit itchy.

My skirt and Chandler’s dress was lined with a silk charmeuse.

The top was made with Butterick B6350 with the following alterations:

-Removed 17″ from the length

-Top stitched the front seam

-Added 1″ to the height of the neck

-Added 1″ to the width of the straps

-Added a 1″ shorter second tiered sleeve

-Faced the arm hole

-Added a 9″ zipper

Used 1 yard of fabric

Skirt was made using vintage McCalls 2905 with the following alterations:

-Removed 18″ from the length

-Added 3″ to the width of the waist band

Chandler’s dress was made using a self drafted pattern.

Used 2 panels for the skirt and the dress
