A couple of months ago, I found this awesome vintage 1970’s bag on Etsy and I fell completely in love. When it arrived, I instantly envisioned an off the shoulder top and a maxi skirt. This bag is so gorgeous, I knew I needed a solid color fabric that would let the bag be the star.
The fabric I chose was this matte Donna Karan viscose jersey. It’s medium weight with tons of drape and movement.
The pattern I used for the top was vintage Butterick 4942 which is the quickest and easiest pattern ever.
The skirt is a simple skirt I draped on my form and added a 4″ waist band. A great alternative pattern is Vogue V9030.

Love the outfit, especially that top. I searched the pattern but no where to be found for sale. Any chance of a quick tutorial? Thanks!
Hi Jennifer, a great alternative is Vogue 2882. It’s available on Etsy and Ebay. Hope this helps
Love that look! And it really shows off the bag!
thank you Susan
NIkki-you know of course I love all of your DIY’s but that bag was an awesome find. It looks like the Patricia Nash bag she currently has out this season.
It definitely reminded me of her bag.
Nikki I love both pieces! You were so right it allows the bag to be the show . The bag stands out and it is oh so lovely! Great work!
Thank you Timesa
Hello who taught you how to sew?
Taught myself a few years ago
Hello and greetings from Finland!
I just love this skirt. Could you, please, advice if the skirt is flaired on all seams, front, back and side seams? And the total width of the hem would be great to know also
Thank you so much.
Yes the skirt is flared on all seams. I don’t recall the width of the hem and I have since given this skirt away.
