If you’ve been following my Instastories lately, you know my life now revolves around this mustard color. It’s truly my new black. So as I searched Moodfabrics.com for a linen fabric and came across this medium weight mustard linen, it was truly a no-brainer. But buying linen online can be pretty tricky because, despite the description, no linen is created equal. With my fingers crossed I opened my shipment and was over the moon excited. This linen is perfect! it’s soft with a bit of structure making it perfect for jackets and pants as well as skirts that require movement. The fact that it comes in 21 shades is simply a bonus.
The lining used was this mustard lining
This jacket was made using McCalls M5938 with the following pattern alterations:
-Squared the hem and the pockets
-Removed the two flank seams from the back of the pattern and added darts (personal preference)
-Removed the slit from the back of the pattern (personal fit preference)
-Added 1″ to the width of the lapel
-Didn’t attach the collar to the lapel to create a stand-up collar
-Removed the button from the sleeve
-Removed the button from the front
This skirt was made using McCalls M6024 dress pattern with the following alterations:
-Used the skirt only pattern pieces
-Removed 3″ from the length
-Added 4″ to the length of both hem ruffles
-Added a 1.5″ waistband
-Added the two wrap ties originally for the dress to the skirt waist band
FYI don’t adjust the length of the ruffles due to shortening the skirt, keeping the length gives you a more exaggerated ruffle.
-Attach the ruffle by pleating it to the skirt
Chandlers dress was made using vintage Simplicity 8597 with the following pattern alterations:
-Added the skirt to the bodice by pleating
-Added the ruffle to the skirt by gathering
